Red Ribbon Club was established in Indirani College Of Nursing on 11-09-2015 under PONDICHERRY AIDS CONTROL SOCIETY

RED RIBBON CLUB is a movement by the Government of India for educational Institutions through which students spread awareness of AIDS. Through RRC youth are encouraged to learn about safe and healthy lifestyles. The red ribbon is a HIV and AIDS awareness ribbon. The Red Ribbon is the international symbol of HIV and AIDS awareness.

OBJECTIVES OF RED RIBBON CLUB

1.Primary Objective:
To prepare youth as peer educators/agents of change both among youth as well as society at large by developing their skills on leadership, advocacy, communication and team building.

2 .Secondary Objectives:
To increase awareness among youth on sexual reproductive health and HIV/AIDS.
To impact skills among youth on self-protection, negotiation, and effective group interaction .

3.Additional Objectives:
To encourage blood donation.
To serve as forums for medical students to participate in the fight against HIIV/AIDS.

ROLE OF THE RED RIBBON CLUB:

  • Educate youth with correct, concise and adequate information and heighten their level of awareness about HIV /AIDS /STI/Sexuality and other related issues ( thus eliminate myths and misconceptions )
  • Enable youth, especially the female students , to identify and understand situations of exploitation and abuse.
  • Sensitize the youth regarding care and support needs of PLWHA and instill in them the spirit of helping and supporting the people living with HIV & AIDS (PLWHA)
  • Increase youth access to health care service related to STI/HIV/AIDS/drug use.
  • Create linkages between youth and governmental, non-governmental agencies and CBOs to access safer and responsible healthy behavior.
  • Organize and facilitate voluntary blood donation camps and mobilize the youth for voluntary blood donation.
  • Create among the youth a cadre of peer educators for seeking and encouraging positive health behavior as well as ensuring sustainability of the club.
