HEPATITIS DAY

World Hepatitis Day is observed each year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and hepatocellular cancer. This year’s theme is “Hepatitis can’t wait”, conveying the urgency of efforts needed to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. With a person dying every 30 seconds from hepatitis related illness. There are five main strains of the hepatitis virus – A, B, C, D and E. Together, hepatitis B and C are the most common which result in 1.1 million deaths and 3 million new infections per year. This day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of knowing one’s hepatitis status and to spread the word about its treatment.

This day is marked on July 28 on the birthday of Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr Baruch Blumberg to honour him. He discovered the Hepatitis B virus (HBV). He also developed a diagnostic test and vaccine to treat the Hep-B virus.

The world Hepatitis day was planed and organized to the B.Sc(N), P.B.BSc (N) and M.Sc(N)  students of Indirani College of Nursing with  the constant support of respected Principal Mam, Prof. Dr. Malligakannan, the guidance of Prof. Dr. Rajeswari.R, IQAC coordinator,  Vice Principal.  

 

Students are encouraged to spread awareness on social media like what’s app, face book, instagram, twitter etc.  They were asked to submit their viewer list snapshot through online on or before 29.7.2021.  Students actively participated and spread the awareness.  Spreading awareness related to hepatitis on social media motivate the students to spread the health awareness to society through social media during this COVID 19 pandemic.    . Around 130 students participated in the competition. Students were encouraged and honored by participant certificate.
